What a guided psilocybin retreat in Colorado costs, and what is included

One real price, broken down line by line, plus the questions worth asking before you pay anyone.

Prices for guided psilocybin experiences in Colorado vary a lot, and the headline number rarely tells you what you are getting. A single session at a healing center is a very different thing from a residential retreat with preparation, lodging, meals and integration included. This article uses one real example, the retreat led by Maureen Lennon-Schafer, LCSW, to show what a full price can cover. It then explains what Colorado's rules say about fees.

One real example: the price

Maureen's three-day retreat in Colorado is listed at:

  • $4,499 with a private room
  • $3,499 with a shared room

She accepts credit card and Zelle, and payment plan options are available. The two prices cover the same program; only the sleeping arrangement differs.

What that price includes

According to Maureen's current listing, the price covers:

Clinical and therapeutic support - A group preparation therapy session - A guided psilocybin session of five to eight hours - A group integration therapy session - Individual therapeutic attention throughout the retreat - Community support

Accommodation and logistics - Two nights at a premium Airbnb, with private or shared rooms - Facilitators onsite for the whole retreat - Transport to and from the licensed healing center - Breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by an in-house chef

Experiential components - Somatic and experiential exercises - Inner child and corrective emotional work - Creative expression practices - Structured group process - The option to contribute to psychedelic medicine research

What it probably does not include

The current listing does not spell out exclusions. Maureen's earlier 2026 listing on the same page excluded airfare, airport transportation and personal expenses. Assume you will need to budget for getting to and from Colorado, and confirm the details for your dates with her team.

What Colorado's rules say about fees

Colorado's facilitator rules include a few consumer protections that are worth knowing whoever you book with:

  • A written fee agreement. Facilitators must keep a signed fee agreement in each participant's records. You should see the costs in writing before you commit.
  • The first integration session cannot be billed separately. Facilitators may charge for *additional* integration sessions, but only if those fees are disclosed in advance.
  • Extra preparation can cost extra. A facilitator may charge more if a participant asks for more than one preparation session.
  • You pay for services, not the medicine. Colorado prohibits the sale of natural medicine outside the licensed business system. In a regulated session, the psilocybin is consumed during the supervised session.

How to compare offers fairly

When you compare one retreat or session with another, put each one against the same list:

  1. Is the facilitator licensed? Check DORA's license lookup.
  2. Where does the session take place? Check that the healing center is licensed, using the Natural Medicine Division's directory.
  3. How much preparation and integration is included, and is any of it individual?
  4. How long is the guided session, and how many participants are there per facilitator? Colorado allows no more than four per facilitator in a full-dose group session.
  5. Are lodging, meals and transport included, or are you arranging them yourself?
  6. What is the cancellation and refund policy, and what happens if screening rules you out?
  7. What follow-up is available after you go home?

A lower price that leaves out lodging, transport and integration can end up costing more, in money and in support.

Where the time goes

A useful way to read a retreat price is to look at how the days are spent, not just the list of what is included. On a three-day residential program, most of the time is not the guided session. The session is five to eight hours on one day. The rest is arrival, preparation, rest, meals, reflection, group process and integration, with facilitators present throughout.

That shape is intentional. Colorado's rules put real weight on what happens around a session: screening and informed consent before it, monitoring during it, and a review afterward with referrals for follow-up care. A residential retreat gives that work room to breathe. You are not driving home alone a few hours after a session, and you are not trying to make sense of a big day in a hotel room by yourself.

If you are comparing a residential retreat with a single session, think about what you would need to arrange yourself to get the same level of support: somewhere quiet to stay, someone to take you to and from the healing center, meals, and time with a professional before and after.

Is it covered by insurance?

We have not found any source showing that health insurance covers natural medicine services in Colorado. Ask your insurer directly if this matters to you, and assume that you will pay out of pocket.

A note on value

It is reasonable to ask whether an experience is "worth" a few thousand dollars. We cannot answer that for you, and we would be wary of anyone who promises a specific result. Research on psilocybin is ongoing. Some people describe their experience as deeply meaningful; others find it difficult or less significant than they expected. What a well-run retreat can offer is careful screening, honest preparation, attentive support on the day, and real time for integration afterward.

Questions people ask

How much does Maureen Lennon-Schafer's retreat cost?

$4,499 with a private room, or $3,499 with a shared room, per her current listing.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. Her listing says payment plan options are available, with payment by credit card or Zelle.

Is the integration session extra?

No. It is included in the retreat. Under Colorado's rules, a facilitator also may not bill the first integration session separately.

Are flights included?

The current listing does not say. An earlier listing excluded airfare and airport transport. Confirm with her team.

Why is a residential retreat priced differently from a single session?

A retreat bundles preparation, the guided session, integration, two nights of lodging, transport to the healing center, meals, and facilitators present throughout. A single session price usually covers much less.
